Histroy and Origin
The natural habitat of PINUS sylvestris extends from Western Europe to eastern Siberia.
The oldest specimens are found in Lapland (region of Finland) with an age of more than 760 years. However, Scots pines reach an age of 150 to 300 years on average.
In more northern regions, this species grows at heights of 0 to 1,000 meters above sea level. On the other hand, in the more southern regions of the natural habitat, it can be considered a mountain tree, since it can be found there at altitudes of 1,200 to 2,600 meters.
PINUS sylvestris ‘Candlelight’ has a very decorative copper colored bark, just like the type species.
In addition, its wood is used for the production of paper and for construction (carpentry). In addition, its buds and resin are used for diuretic, balsamic and bronchial antiseptic effects. As such, essential oils and decoction are used. The tonic and hypertensive qualities have been known since Hippocrates (Greek physician and philosopher, 460-377 BC).
